The Origin Story.

I've been loud my whole life. I've got the voice for it, and I've been wearing loud shirts since I was a kid. Put that on a big guy with a bushy beard and a big smile and I'm not exactly hard to spot.

Years ago I noticed the Hawaiian shirt was doing something for me at conferences and networking events. People could find me in a crowded room, and they seemed a lot more comfortable walking up to say hi. So I leaned in. Now I pack three of the same shirt for every event and wear one every day... same shirt, on purpose.

When I started going to Tempo games I just wore what I always wear, and the building loved it way more than I expected. People stopped me for photos and strangers yelled across the concourse... some went with "Hawaiian Shirt Guy," some with "Scuba Dance Guy." My wife and daughter mostly watched it happen and laughed.

I'd been half-jokingly trying to get people to call me "Baseline," which never stood a chance. My daughter was the one who said I needed an account for this, so we made one. Then we won a game in overtime, I completely lost it, and the Tempo crew handed me a phone to catch it and posted the clip with my name on it. So I didn't really name myself... the crowd did, and the team made it official.

What keeps me coming back is how this community took it. Plenty of places would tell a guy like me to pipe down, and Tempo Nation pulled up a chair instead. I doubt I'm the only one walking around with a lot of loud and nowhere good to let it out. If that's you, come find me in the shirt at a game and be loud with me.
